The Sparrowland Short Film Festival hits Brisbane

Sparrowland Short Film Festival 2024 is back with gusto...and this year is teaming up with the gang at Brisbane’s hottest new venue...PIP Theatre in Milton!

Sparrowland showcases the bravest and boldest of local and international short films, art and music each year, with almost 200 film entries from around the world.

The festival includes live acting workshops, Q&A panel events with industry professionals, networking events and more.

This year, the Sparrowland Short Film Festival will run over four days, which means you can jump in to any number of events during the evenings or on the weekend.

The festival runs from Wednesday May 8 through Saturday May 11. It opens on the Wednesday with indie internationals - a selection of hearty films from across the globe. Thursday sees a student showcase, with some of the best of local and international student filmmakers. Locals are on show Friday evening as well with Locals Night celebrating the brave local indie filmmakers.

Saturday is a full day extravaganza. The daytime sees documentaries, family films, meet and greets and an expert panel, before the Black and White themed Awards Night showcases a sparkly evening of sensational cinema, inspiration, awards and party vibes.

On the professional development front, there are panels galore. Whether it’s Wednesday’s “What can we learn from Iranian cinema?” or Saturday’s “The guardians of the industry” chat with film industry guild heads, aspiring filmmakers can’t afford to miss the wealth of knowledge on offer.

It’s shaping up to be a great time, so check out their socials and find out more at the link below!
